Amik Plain of Hatay province, one of the most important centres of agricultural production, has the first harvest of cotton planted in more than 300 thousand hectares area.
AK Party Hatay Deputy Hüseyin Yayman, Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Ergün Çolakoğlu and farmers participated in the harvest carried out in the field of a producer in Topboğazı District of Kırıkhan district of Hatay.

Indicating that cotton is an indispensable product for the Amik Plain, Yayman said, “Turkey ranks 8th in cotton production and 4th in consumption across the world. This means that, we are importing cotton. We expect much more support to this strategic crop from our Agriculture and Forestry Minister.”
Yayman stated, “Cotton is so valuable for Turkey because of its usage both in textiles and livestock along with feed industry as well as in daily life. We have a request from our Minister concerning such an important crop. Actually this demand comes from our chambers of agriculture, farmers and all provincial non-govermental organizations.”
Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Ergün Çolakoğlu pointed out that they expect high yields in cotton this year and 200 thousand tons of yield is expected from “white gold” planted in more than 300 thousand decares.
