The Black Sea Agricultural Research Institute produced biodiesel from hemp seeds. Energy Agriculture Research Centre Director Mustafa Acar stated that hemp is an important raw material in the food and cosmetics sectors as well as its use for energy purposes.
As a result of the studies carried out at the Black Sea Agricultural Research Institute Energy Agriculture Research Centre, biodiesel was produced from hemp seeds.
Biodiesel production was carried out as a result of the work carried out by the Black Sea Agricultural Research Institute Energy Agriculture Research Centre from hemp, which has many areas of use such as food, cosmetics, automobile and health sectors.
Energy Agriculture Research Centre Director Mustafa Acar explained that they are Türkiye’s only Energy Agriculture Research Centre established by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry to work on ‘energy agriculture’.
Pointing out that they are working to obtain energy from all plant products in the centre, Acar said, “We also carry out hemp studies in our institute. Hemp is one of our ancient plants known in our country for thousands of years and is a product with a large number of uses.”
Highlighting that they started working on hemp as an institute in 2014, Acar added, “These studies bore fruit in 2021. We registered the first domestic industrial hemp variety of our country with the name ‘Vezir’. Vezir seed variety is offered to the service of our producers.”
