Fish becomes the star of food exports…
Türkiye exported 152.7 million dollars worth of fish in January…
Fish was among the most successful products in food exports in 2026. Türkiye exported 152.7 million dollars worth of fish in January 2025, while in January 2026, it ramped up its fish exports by 36 percent to 207.1 million dollars. Türkiye’s fish exports recorded an increase of 54 million dollars in one month.
Bedri Girit, Chair of the Aegean Fisheries and Animal Products Exporters’ Association, stated that they accounted for two out of every three fish exported by the country, emphasising that the Turkish fishery products sector had left 2025 behind with a performance of 2 billion 243 million dollars, underlined that they had made a very successful start to 2026 and were on track to exceed their export target of 2.5 billion dollars.
Fish was one of the five product groups with the highest spike in exports in January 2026, becoming the star of food exports. Fish exports soared by 4 percent in terms of volume, rising from 21,978 tonnes to 22,935 tonnes.
Triple-digit spike in tuna exports…
Pointing out that sea bass exports continued to lead the way in seafood exports, rising by 27 percent from 48 million to 60.7 million dollars, Girit said, “Our sea bream exports rose from 38 million to 46 million dollars. The most significant spike was in tuna. Tuna exports soared by 122 per cent, a triple-digit spike, from 18.5 million to 41 million dollars. Our increase in Turkish salmon also continued in 2026, rising by 39 percent from 23 million to 32 million dollars. Our exports of other fishery products rose from 14.8 million to 16 million dollars, while our trout exports remained steady at 8.7 million dollars. Our rockfish exports soared by 44 percent, rising from 1.7 million to 2.5 million dollars.”
