BAKIRLIOĞLU: BAN ON THE EXPORT OF BULK OLIVE OIL SHOULD BE LIFTED

Olive oil export ban is on the Parliament’s agenda…

We have a surplus of 100 thousand tons…

Bakırlıoğlu, who brought the olive oil export ban to the agenda of the Parliament and presented a question to Minister Vahit Kirişci, demanded that the olive oil export ban be lifted.

Upon the request of the previous Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Bekir Pakdemirli, the Ministry of Treade banned the export of olive oil, one of Turkiye’s most important plant products, in bulk. Addressing to the new Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Vahit Kirişci, CHP Manisa Deputy Ahmet Vehbi Bakırlıoğlu called for the lifting of the olive oil export ban.

CHP Deputy Ahmet Vehbi Bakırlıoğlu stated in his motion, “Turkiye is an important olive and olive oil country with both the number of olive trees and the amount of production and olive-olive oil is among the products of strategic importance. Olive and olive oil producer farmers, who have to sell their products at a cost, have been the biggest victims of this decision. They will be victimized again. It is incomprehensible that an export ban is imposed on a product with surplus production.”

“The export ban will cause the prices of the oils in the hands of the farmer to decrease, so the farmers will suffer the most from this decision. They have to sell their olives and olive oil at their cost, which is having a difficult season in the face of increasing costs. The farmers who will remain will be the biggest victims of this decision. In addition, this ban will negatively affect their exports in the next year. Exporting companies and olive oil producing factories and businesses will suffer from this situation,” Bakırlıoğlu added.

“WE HAVE 100 THOUSAND TONNES SURPLUS”

“Because our olive oil production is more than consumption, there is no other way than export. It is stated in the official reports of your Ministry that 230 thousand tonnes of olive oil was produced last year and 35 thousand tonnes of products were on the shelves last year. On the other hand, our annual domestic consumption is around 160 thousand tonnes. In this case, we have 100 thousand tonnes of surplus,” he concluded…
