Ahmet Tuncay Sagun: As Group Sagun, we are now bringing our decades of aquaculture experience at sea to land and ushering in a new era of technology in the Turkish seafood sector

Group Sagun, one of the long-established organisations in Türkiye’s fishery sector, is preparing to expand its farming operations to include advanced technology-based land-based systems.

With this new investment, in the Black Sea region’s province of Sinop, Group Sagun is set to become one of the pioneering organisations to implement RAS technology on an industrial scale in the country, whilst the project is also aimed at being one of the largest investments in the region.

RAS technology offers significant advantages, such as filtering the water used in aquaculture and returning it to the system, maintaining constant control over water quality, managing critical production parameters such as temperature and oxygen and enhancing biosecurity levels.

The new system aims to reduce the dependence of fish farming on natural environmental conditions, enable more precise management of production processes, and support sustainable water use.

Key figures from the sector came together during the signing process…

High-level representatives from the public sector, the technology sector and the aquaculture sector attended the project’s agreement and evaluation meeting.

Representing Group Sagun, Chairman of the Board Ahmet Tuncay Sagun and Deputy Chairman of the Board Oğulcan Kemal Sagun were present at the meeting.

From the MAT Group, one of the project partners for RAS technology, Erdem Akartepe, Founder and Chairman of the Board of MAT Filtration Technologies; Gökhan Birlikçi, General Manager of MAT Global and Taner Bilgiç, General Manager and CTO of MAT Kuling, also attended.

The meeting was also attended by Hüseyin Akbaş, Deputy Director-General for Fisheries and Aquaculture at the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of the Republic of Türkiye and Bülent Canatan, Director of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Branch in Izmir…
