Antalya accounts for 21 percent of Türkiye’s pomegranate production…

Türkiye’s leading agricultural region Antalya has become an important pomegranate production centre, accounting for 21 percent of the country’s total pomegranate production. The province, which produced 135 thousand tonnes of pomegranate last year, expects an increase in yield this year and exports pomegranate to 49 countries.

Pomegranate, which is grown on approximately 64 thousand decares of land across the province, is collected from the gardens, packaged and placed in cold storage. From here, pomegranate is sent both to the domestic market and abroad according to demand.

It was stated that 135 thousand tonnes of the 640 thousand tonnes of pomegranate produced in Türkiye last year were grown in Antalya region.

Antalya Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Şakir Fırat Erkal said that Antalya is assertive in pomegranate production as in many products.

Stating that pomegranate production is carried out on approximately 294 thousand decares of land in Türkiye and 64 thousand decares of this area is located in Antalya, Erkal said, “21 percent of the pomegranate produced throughout the country is from Antalya. Last year, 135 thousand tonnes of pomegranate was produced in 64 thousand decares. This year, the yield is a little higher, we have close to 150 thousand tonnes of production.”
