Around 1,850 seed companies are propelling the sector to the top with state support…

M. Kayhan Yıldırım, President of the Turkish Seed Growers Association (TÜRKTOB), stated that approximately 1,850 companies in the seed sector are advancing the industry through state support and R&D investments.

Speaking to an Anadolu Agency (AA) correspondent, Yıldırım noted that Türkiye’s seed sector has gained significant momentum, particularly since the 2000s, through public-private sector cooperation.
Stating that there are around 1,850 companies operating in the seed sector nationwide, Yıldırım said, “The presence of numerous competitive domestic firms that hold a strong position in the global market.”
Emphasizing that they meet domestic seed needs, export products and increase production capacity annually, Yıldırım explained, “We have a certified seed production of 1,351,000 tonnes nationwide. This is a significant figure, and the sector has gained rapid momentum; there has been a substantial increase compared to previous years. We are currently in a net exporter position as a seed sector.”
“In the global seed market, the USA ranks first with 12 billion dollars and China second with 10 billion dollars, followed by France, Brazil and Canada,” he added.
He also reported that Türkiye ranks 10th with 750 million dollars due to recent developments and stated that they are focusing on both R&D investments and international activities to elevate the sector to 5th place…
