The Mediterranean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association exported 72,074 tonnes of fresh fruit and vegetables in July, generating 92.6 million dollars in foreign exchange revenue.
Having increased its export value by 54 percent compared to the same period last year, the Association single-handedly accounted for approximately 31.3 percent of Türkiye’s total fresh fruit and vegetable exports of 295.6 million dollars in July.
Assessing the export performance for July, Bülent Sarıkaya, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Mediterranean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association, stated that demand for Turkish fresh fruit and vegetables in global markets remained strong.
Highlighting that product diversity, quality and effective marketing activities had a positive impact on exports, Sarıkaya said, “Although we achieved a performance close to that of the same period last year in terms of volume, we ramped up our export value by 54 percent to reach 92.6 million dollars. This demonstrates that our products are generating higher added value in international markets and are strongly positioned in the right markets.”
Peaches dominated July’s exports…
In July, the Association’s highest export figure was recorded in the peach category at 18.8 million dollars. Peaches were followed by apricots at 15.3 million dollars and cherries and sour cherries at 14.3 million dollars. Whilst apricot exports rose by 212 percent and peach exports by 64.6 percent in value terms, the spike in value for cherries and sour cherries – reaching as much as 384 times the previous figure – made a significant contribution to the sector’s exports…
