The Selim Jimi era at the Aegean Tobacco Exporters’ Association…
Selim Jimi was elected Chairman of the Board of Directors at the General Assembly of the Aegean Tobacco Exporters’ Association. Selim Jimi had been serving as a member of the Board of Directors of the Aegean Tobacco Exporters’ Association since 2016.
Selim Jimi became the sixth person to be elected as Chairman of the Aegean Tobacco Exporters’ Association, following Alaattin Tezol, Esin Özgener, Nevzat Karagözoğlu, Mahmut Özgener and Ömer Celal Umur, whilst also achieving the distinction of being the Association’s first Chairman with a professional management background.
Ömer Celal Umur, who served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Aegean Tobacco Exporters’ Association between 2018 and 2026, is ineligible to stand as a candidate for the presidency due to the two-term rule; however, he will continue to serve the sector on the Board of Directors of the Aegean Tobacco Exporters’ Association in the coming term.
Mahmut Özgener, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the İzmir Chamber of Commerce, has also taken his place on the Aegean Tobacco Exporters’ Association Board of Directors for the 2026–30 term.
Exports exceed 1 billion dollars, production surpasses 100,000 tonnes…
The tobacco sector, one of Türkiye’s traditional export industries, is celebrating the achievement of both exceeding 100,000 tonnes in production and surpassing 1 billion dollars in exports for the first time in eight years.
The General Assembly of the Aegean Tobacco Exporters’ Association, which brings together tobacco and tobacco product exporters in the country, highlighted the joy of these twin records.
Selim Jimi, Chair of the Aegean Tobacco Exporters Association, stated that the tobacco and tobacco products sector ramped up its exports by 8.4 percent to reach 1.06 billion dollars in 2025.
Exports to 112 Countries…
Jimi also provided information that they exported to a total of 112 countries in 2025, primarily Iraq, the USA, Belgium, Iran and the United Arab Emirates, and said, “With our export performance in 2025, we have reinforced our strength in the global market; this success is due to the great dedication of our producers and the intense efforts of our exporters.”
“While our cigarette exports reached 501 million dollars, we earned 336 million dollars from leaf tobacco and 105 million dollars from hookah tobacco exports,” Jimi added…
