Earth Overshoot Day, the date when the resources that nature can renew within a year are depleted, is calculated this year as July 24th. From this date on, resources for future years begin to be depleted.

Istanbul…
Experts state that the ever-earlier Earth Overshoot Day threatens the ecological balance and the right to life of future generations. Urgent measures are being taken at the individual and societal levels for a sustainable future. Earth Overshoot Day is calculated by the Global Footprint Network (GFN).
Dr. Ahmet Adiller, Head of the Environmental Health Program at Üsküdar University’s School of Health Services, told an Anadolu Agency (AA) reporter that if the current rate of consumption continues, the world could completely deplete its natural resources in less than 100 years.

Adiller said, “Earth Overshoot Day represents the day we exhaust the natural resources nature has provided us for the year. As we know, natural resources are not infinite. They have a renewal rate within nature throughout the year. Unfortunately, we have now exceeded this renewal rate and are depleting the resources allocated to us before the year is over, and are beginning to deplete them for future years and generations.”
