The “Small in Scale, Big in Value” project was launched in cooperation with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), Metro Turkiye and Muğla Province Trout Breeders’ Association. Within the scope of the project, which aims to protect small and traditional family fishery and to give trout the value they deserve in the sector, trainings and technical support will be provided to small trout producers in the region.
It is also aimed to ensure the sustainability of small-scale production by placing the trout, whose compliance is guaranteed through food safety and social compliance inspections, in Metro Turkiye stores.
With the decision taken at the UN General Assembly, 2022 has been declared the “International Year of Traditional Fisheries and Aquaculture (IYAFA).
Within the scope of sustainable food systems, it is aimed to encourage small and traditional family fishery and aquaculture to adopt sustainable production methods, create economic added value and contribute to healthy nutrition by the consumption of fish and aquaculture, which is important for human health.
