Union of Turkish Agricultural Chambers (TZOB) Chairman Şemsi Bayraktar said that they predict about 800 thousand cattle and 2.7 million ovines (small ruminants), 3 million 500 thousand heads of livestock in total will be slaughtered this year.
Bayraktar said, “We calculate that it will approach 12.3 billion liras to be paid for sacrificials.”
In his written statement, Bayraktar noted that the sacrificial prices and the way of sales differ according to provinces and regions and in some places, sales are made by bargaining over live kilogram (weighing) and meat (carcass) prices.
Explaining that according to the information they received from the Chambers of Agriculture across Turkey, Bayraktar added, “This year, animal prices differ according to the provinces, live weights, races (indigenous-culture) and heifers and bullocks along with sheep and goats.”
“We estimate that prices will change between 5 thousand to 30 thousand liras per animal in bovines and between 800 and 3 thousand 500 liras in ovines. The price of live weight will be 19 to 30 liras per kilogram of cattle and 22 to 35 liras for ovine animals,” Bayraktar concluded…
