Veysel Memiş, Chairman of the Tat Food (Tat Gıda) Board of Directors, stated that contract production, digitalisation and farmer-focused support are the keys to sustainable transformation.

Emphasising the ‘transition from rhetoric to action’ in his statement, Veysel Memiş drew attention to two key areas, highlighting the integration of young farmers into agriculture and the efficient management of water. Pointing out that only 13.5 percent of farmers in Türkiye are aged between 18 and 39, Veysel Memiş said, “The Young Farmer Training Programme, implemented in cooperation with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), had exceeded its target, reaching 217 young people. Thanks to partnerships with universities, young people were being trained in drone, IoT and digital agriculture technologies.”
Veysel Memiş also touched upon the critical importance of water usage in agriculture, underlining that they were one of the first companies to implement drip irrigation systems and that they had increased their water recovery rate to 30 percent through biological wastewater treatment investments. “Efficient water usage in agriculture is no longer a choice, but a necessity, therefore their investments in this area will continue to increase,” he noted.
Highlighting that Tat Food’s approach offers a scalable ‘best practice’ model for Türkiye, Veysel Memiş added, “The combined approach of contract farming, digitalisation and farmer-focused support mechanisms is the key to sustainable transformation in the food sector.”
