Fisheries and animal products industry tightens steps with China and the UK…
Fisheries exports to the UK will increase exponentially with FTA…
Turkish aquaculture and animal products sector, since the beginning of the 2000s was one of the stars of the export sector in Turkey. With the export amount of 2.5 billion dollars we realized at the end of 2019, we are the first sector to reach the export targets for 2023.
As Aegean Fisheries and Animal Products Exporters’ Association, we maintained our leading position in our sector by signing a 957 million dollar exports in 2019. Besides we made a 41 percent contribution to Turkey’s 2.4 billion dollars of exports in fisheries and animal products in 2020 with realising 984 million dollars this year.
In the January-December period of 2020, the top 5 sub-sectors with the highest exports were aquaculture with 1.05 billion dollars, poultry meat with 554 million dollars, milk and dairy products with 301 million dollars, eggs with 256 million dollars and natural honey with 25 million dollars.
There are 312 companies registered in our association, there are 150 companies that export more than 500,000 dollars annually. We export to more than 120 countries.
Turkey has set as a priority country in exports in the new era. Those are China, Mexico, Russia and India markets, the Middle East, Turkic Republics, Japan, Brazil and African countries. These countries take place in our industry target market position.
On the other hand, Turkey needs to put in more work contributed to the woman’s life. I believe that the state should provide more incentive for increasing women’s employment. We are proud that one out of every three women exporters is the representative of the Aegean Exporters’ Associations (EİB) in the “TIM (Turkish Exporters’ Assembly) Women’s Council”, which has been constituted for the first time within TIM.
More recently, we have removed the technical barriers to exports of Turkey’s milk and dairy products and poultry meat to China thanks to long negotiations that we have carried out with our Ministry of Trade and Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry,.
We intend to continue our dairy products exports, which started with milk powder, by ensuring that Turkish cheese is placed on the market shelves in China, and our poultry meat exports, which started with chicken feet, by exporting other poultry products.
Moreover, the United Kingdom and Turkey signed a free trade agreement (FTA) with the export of our industry, we believe that it will be reflected in the positive position. The UK is one of the important markets, especially for our aquaculture industry. With an export figure of 74 million dollars, the United Kingdom is the 5th country where our country exports the most aquaculture products. We expect that our exports to the UK will increase exponentially after the Free Trade Agreement.
