“OUR AUTHENTIC CROPS, OUR MOST IMPORTANT TRUMP CARD IN PULSES”

Press release…

Hüseyin Arslan, Chairman of the Board of the Mediterranean Cereals, Pulses, Oilseeds and Products Exporters’ Association (AHBİB), stated that having the authentic crop is Turkiye’s most important trump card at the centre of the Fertile Crescent in the world pulses market.

Noting that the gene resources should be protected and developed while reinforcing the perception that the homeland of pulses is Anatolian lands, Arslan said, “We need to strengthen the brand perception that Turkiye, the homeland of lentils, chickpeas and peas, is original just as Italy has created a brand perception in pasta. AHBİB’s January export is 159.6 million dollars…

Pointing out that AHBİB, which realized exports of 1.57 billion dollars in 2021 with an increase of 34 percent compared to the previous year, started 2022 at a high pace, Arslan noted, “We achieved an increase of 55 percent in January compared to the same period of the previous year amounting an export value of 159.6 million dollars.”

Stating that they evaluated 184 thousand tonnes of products in 166 countries around the world in the first month of the year, Arslan explained, “We supported the sector’s exports of 848.3 million dollars by 19 percent. The product group we exported the most in January was pulses. This month, we exported 56.1 million dollars of pulses with a rise of 171 percent.”

“Pastry products ranked second with an increase of 10 percent and a value of 23.4 million dollars and milling products took the third place with an increase of 127 percent and a value of 18 million dollars,” Arslan added…
