Türkiye’s southeastern province Şanlıurfa’s Metropolitan Municipality brought together 1 million isot (local red pepper) seedlings produced with ancestral seeds to the soil. Metropolitan Mayor Zeynel Abidin Beyazgül, who participated in the planting of isot, one of the registered local flavours of the region, said that in Şanlıurfa province, 800 thousand seedlings produced with ancestral seeds were planted to the farmers and the remaining 200 thousand seedlings were planted.
The planting of isot seedlings, being famous for its bitter taste, which is one of the registered local flavours of Şanlıurfa, has started. The isot seedlings grown with ancestral seeds in the greenhouses of Şanlıurfa Metropolitan Municipality met with the soil with the warming of the weather.
Şanlıurfa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Zeynel Abidin Beyazgül participated in the planting of seedlings for isot, which is one of the indispensable spices of Şanlıurfa cuisines. In addition to Mayor Beyazgül, Viranşehir District Mayor Salih Ekinci, Harran University Rector Professor Dr. Mehmet Tahir Güllüoğlu and farmers participated.
Beyazgül and the locals harvested the isots that were previously planted in greenhouses. Beyazgül, who carefully plucked the isot from its branches, wished the isot harvest to be beneficial. He then attended the distribution ceremony of 800 thousand isot seedlings. While 800 thousand of 1 million isot seedlings grown in greenhouses by agricultural engineers were distributed to farmers, 200 thousand seedlings were planted in the field belonging to the Metropolitan Municipality…
