The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) highlighted the importance of the issue of ‘awareness’ at the international level on ‘Food Waste and Losses’ with an online event organized for the first time on Tuesday, September 29, 2020.
Because the problem is very current and very dramatic. Around 1 billion people all over the world go to bed hungry every night. A child dies of hunger every 6 seconds! One third of the total food products produced in the world every year is thrown away. This is an urgent issue, both nationally and internationally. It must be resolved. But first, it is strategically important to create a wide ‘awareness’ on this issue.
In this context, we, as the Turkish Guild of Agricultural Journalists (TAGYAD), attach great importance to the “SAVE FOOD – Protect Your Table” campaign organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and FAO. The aim here is to raise social awareness on food waste and loss. We must do this together. We have to do it together as a society.
As a result, we invite TAGYAD members, together with all media members, to support common awareness on combating food waste and loss, and to support the efforts to prevent waste and losses in the production – consumption chain from field to table.
