Mehmet Ali Işık: We exported 73 thousand 388 tonnes of dried figs
The 2022/23 season of dried figs, the fruit of paradise, of which Türkiye is the the world’s leading producer and exporter and also defined as the holy fruit in all heavenly religions, ended with a historic export success.
Türkiye exported 73 thousand 388 tonnes of dried figs in the 2022/23 season, reaching the highest dried fig export figure in its history in terms of quantity.
Dried fig exporters exported dried figs to 109 countries in the 2022/23 season and managed to bring 260 million dollars in foreign currency to the country.
Stating that the foreign currency earning performance in dried fig exports took its place in history as the second season in which we earned the most foreign currency after the export of 278 million dollars of dried figs in 2018, Mehmet Ali Işık, Chair of the Aegean Dried Fruits and Products Exporters Association, noted that they left behind a successful term and made a hopeful entry into the 2023/24 season.
Pointing out that dried figs have been one of the most important export products of Türkiye since the pre-Republican years, Işık said, “The success story of Turkish producers and exporters, which has exceeded a century, continues strongly. In order to prevent mycotoxins that may occur due to natural conditions in dried figs, we prepare export batches by checking dried figs one by one.”
“Within the scope of our Dried Fig Board activities, we distribute the Sourness Beetle Attractive Bait Trap, Straw Net, Drying Cradle and Harvest Nets, which were made by our Association to increase quality and food safety, to our dried fig producers free of charge in coordination with our Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry,” Işık added.
“In order for our dried figs, which are on the World Health Organisation’s list of healthy foods, to find the value they deserve, we want to export 75 thousand tonnes of dried figs in the 2023/24 season by working devotedly by the producers, hookers, traders and exporters in the dried fig production and export chain and to bring 300 million dollars of foreign currency to our country,” he concluded…
