FERTILIZER EXPORTS DE FACTO BANNED WHILE INDUSTRIALISTS REACT!

Fertilizer exports are actually banned, industrialists are reacting!

In the letter sent to the exporters’ associations and customs, it was stated that the export transaction of fertilizers and fertilizer raw materials, which were included in the list of goods subject to registration by the Ministry of Commerce, will not be “registered”. Expressing the reaction of fertilizer producers to the export ban, Head of Antalya Organized Industrial Zone (OIZ) Ali Bahar said, “Will my industrialist go bankrupt?”

A direct export ban was imposed this time for fertilizers and fertilizer raw materials, the exports of which were included in the list of goods subject to registration a while ago. In the letter sent to the exporters’ associations and customs, it was stated that the export transaction of the products in question would not be recorded.

Fertilizer manufacturers stand up!

The Ministry of Trade’s ban on fertilizer exports caused outrage in the sector. Fertilizer manufacturers announced that the decision would bring many companies to the brink of bankruptcy.

Industrialists of Antalya Organized Industrial Zone, where Turkey’s leading companies in fertilizer production are involved, presented a report containing the problems caused by the ban decision and solution suggestions to the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) President Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu. Metin Güneş, Head of Fertilizer Manufacturers, Importers and Exporters’ Association (GÜİD), Antalya OIZ Chairperson Ali Bahar and industrialists stated that this decision, which was taken at the desk without being asked to the field and without consultation with the sector representatives, will cause great losses in both the country’s economy, exports and employment.

“The industry collapses”

Bahar said, “We are talking about the collapse of an industry here and I’d like to point out that banning fertilizer exports will not reduce prices, on the contrary, it will cause an increase. 95 percent of the total raw material needed by the industry is procured from abroad. So we have to import. The prices of these raw materials we import have risen between 300 and 500 percent in all world markets, depending on the prices of energy, logistics and basic inputs.”

“In addition, the recent hikes in the exchange rate have also been an important factor in the increase in fertilizer prices. These are the main reasons for the increase in domestic fertilizer prices,” Bahar added…
