EXPORTS CONTINUE TO GROW, HIGH YIELD EXPECTED FOR SUMMER FRUITS…
Ferhat Gürüz, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Mediterranean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters Association, announced that Türkiye achieved exports worth 398 million dollars in February, a 25 percent spike compared to the same period last year. Noting that the export volume decreased by 14 percent to 324 million kilograms during the same period, Chairman Ferhat Gürüz stated that this picture is an indication of the spike in product prices and value-added exports.

“We are focusing on exporting at higher unit prices by increasing quality, logistics and marketing power in the fresh fruit and vegetable sector. In the coming period, we aim to further strengthen our sector’s export performance through new market searches, cold chain investments and product diversity,” Gürüz said.
‘We expect a good harvest of stone fruits, watermelons, melons and other summer fruits.’
Chairman Gürüz, who made important assessments regarding food inflation, climate-related problems in production and developments in exports, pointed out that the frost, drought and adverse weather conditions experienced in 2025 affected both production and prices, adding that the market is expected to stabilise with the normalisation of climatic conditions as of 2026.
Highlighting that in January and February 2026, the Mersin and Antalya regions, Türkiye’s most important vegetable production centres, experienced heavy rainfall, flooding and storms, he concluded, “This caused a temporary disruption in vegetable production and put pressure on prices. We expect production to recover as climatic conditions return to normal in the coming period. We anticipate a decline in vegetable prices starting in March and April. With the arrival of summer fruits in May, supply in the market will surge. We expect a good harvest, particularly for stone fruits, watermelons, melons, and other summer fruits.”
