Emre Uygun, Chair of the Aegean Olive and Olive Oil Exporters Association, stated that in the 2024-25 harvest year, Turkish olive growers produced 750,000 tonnes of table olives and 475,000 tonnes of olive oil, according to Ministry of Agriculture data.

“This placed Türkiye second in global production after Spain. However, our share of the global olive oil trade is only 7 percent. The 2024/2025 season clearly demonstrated that Türkiye may be the world’s second-largest producer of olive oil, but without a stable and predictable export policy, this strength is meaningless. In 2025, our olive oil exports fell by approximately 65 percent in value terms to 189 million dollars, in line with the decline in world prices,” Uygun said.
“The reason for this decline is uncertainty, unpredictability and frequently changing practices”
Pointing out that in contrast, they broke records in table olives, Uygun explained, “We reached the highest level in our history with exports worth 258 million dollars. This picture sends us a very clear message: when market rules are clear, exporters do their job. We want a structure where producers, exporters and branding can survive at the same time. According to the harvest forecast shared by National Olive and Olive Oil Council (UZZK) in October 2025, total olive production in the 2025/26 season is expected to be 2.45 million tonnes, of which 740,000 tonnes will be table olives and the remaining approximately 310,000 tonnes will be used for olive oil production.”
“However, assessments from the field indicate that these estimates need to be revised downwards due to regional risks, primarily the effects of frost and drought,” Uygun added…
