Combatting aflatoxin and ochratoxin continues intensively in Aydın region!

Following the fresh fig season in Aegean province of Aydın, the dried fig season has commenced. To maintain and improve the quality of dried figs, laboratory tests are being conducted and new technological devices are being utilised to combat aflatoxin and ochratoxin in figs.

State-of-the-art devices have replaced special dark rooms in businesses and workers are sorting aflatoxin- and ochratoxin-contaminated figs in comfortable environments. Dried figs are examined individually by hand under a purple light. The purple light technology, which reveals aflatoxin in figs, also improves their quality.

‘The quality of Aydın figs is improving day by day’

Yahya Anlıak, Head of the Nazilli Chamber of Agriculture, stated that the quality of Aydın figs is increasing day by day.

“The fact that our figs, a heavenly fruit with many health benefits, are being discussed in relation to issues such as aflatoxin and ochratoxin deeply affects us farmers. For this reason, we examine our figs one by one under purple light using state-of-the-art equipment. Figs that are visually and manually inspected are separated if they contain aflatoxins. The remaining healthy figs are sorted by size and packaged cleanly. These high-quality figs are sent to both the domestic and international markets,” he noted…
