Press release…
Türkiye is the world’s second-largest honey producer, with production approaching 100,000 tonnes. It accounts for a significant portion of global pine honey production, with a 90 percent share. However, this production strength is not reflected in exports. The country ranks 18th in the world in honey exports with a value of 33.5 million dollars.

To achieve a position among the top three countries in the world in honey exports, the Turkish honey sector has launched an R&D project titled “Increasing the International Market Competitiveness of Turkish Pine Honey.”
The Aegean Fisheries and Animal Products Exporters Association, a leader in Turkish honey exports, has initiated the 24-month project in collaboration with the General Directorate of Agricultural Research and Policies of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.
“We Have a Potential for 250 Million dollars in Exports”

Bedri Girit, Chair of the Aegean Fisheries and Animal Products Exporters Association, stated that they discussed the issue with the General Directorate of Agricultural Research and Policies of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and received a promise of support. He emphasized that Türkiye, with its honey production approaching 100,000 tonnes, deserves much more than its current export figure of 33.5 million dollars.
Underlining that the average price of honey exports from Türkiye is 3.9 dollars, he noted, “We are second in the world in production, but 18th in exports. This gap between production capacity and export revenue must close. China exports 265 million dollars worth of honey and New Zealand exports 250 million dollars.”
“We want to reach the level of these countries with our honey exports of 250 million dollars. When our exports surge, all links in the chain of our beekeeping sector will benefit from this prosperity,” he added…
