ANKARA…

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry issued a written statement regarding the engagements of Minister İbrahim Yumaklı in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, within the scope of the 17th Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity.

The statement includes remarks made by Yumaklı to the representatives of participating nations during the COP17 Leaders’ Summit.

Highlighting the significance of the day, Minister Yumaklı also acknowledged World Food Day, celebrated under the theme “Innovate Today, Nourish Tomorrow” under the leadership of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

Recalling that four years have passed since the adoption of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework which provides a common roadmap for halting biodiversity loss and protecting nature, Yumaklı remarked, “The primary task now before us is to translate this shared vision into concrete actions and lasting results. To achieve this, it is of great importance to facilitate access to finance and technology, expand capacity-building opportunities and strengthen scientific and technical cooperation.”

Pointing out that international support must be increased to enable developing countries, in particular, to achieve their goals, Yumaklı added, “We attach importance to taking into account the varying circumstances and development priorities of these nations and to acting in a spirit of equity and shared responsibility.”
