Ibrahim Yumaklı, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, announced that Türkiye ranks first in global fig production with a 28 per cent share, also a major exporter of dried figs.

Yumaklı took part in the fig harvest at the Fig Research Institute in the district of İncirliova in Aydın province. Noting that he had come to Aydın to take part in the fig harvest, Yumaklı said that the country had received its best rainfall in 66 years this year.
Reporting that high yields are expected for many crops, Yumaklı said, “In particular, the grain harvest is now nearing completion. We are expecting a crop production volume of over 140 million tonnes. This will be the largest record on record.”
Emphasising that Türkiye ranks first in the world for fig production, Yumaklı continued:
“Türkiye ranks first in global fig production with a 28 percent share. It is also a major exporter of dried figs. The 2026 harvest forecast is expected to amount to approximately 388,000 tonnes of fresh figs and 94,000 tonnes of dried figs. Our country meets approximately 60 to 65 percent of global demand for dried figs. In this sense, our country holds the world’s number one position for a truly unique product.”
“Sixty percent of the country’s figs are also produced in Aydın region. Furthermore, organic fig production takes place in significant quantities in Aydın as well. Eighty-four percent of the organic figs produced in Türkiye come from Aydın province,” he added…
