In Konya, smart irrigation applications in agriculture will be tested as part of the ‘Climate Change Resilient Smart Irrigation Center Project,’ implemented with the support of the European Union to ensure efficient water use in the face of climate change. The project aims to benefit 10,000 farmers.

The smart irrigation project, developed in Konya to use water more efficiently in agriculture, will test climate change-adaptive production models in the field.
The “Climate Change Resilient Smart Irrigation Centre Project,” aiming for more efficient water use in agriculture against the threat of climate change and increasing drought, is being implemented in Konya with the support of the European Union.
A signing ceremony was held at the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change for the project, which is supported within the framework of the European Union-Turkey Climate Change Grant Program, implemented under the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA III).
The project, with a total budget of 739,000 euros, will be carried out in cooperation with Necmettin Erbakan University and Karatay Municipality.
Within the scope of the project, which will be implemented under the leadership of Assoc. Dr. Sevim Seda Yamaç, a faculty member of Necmettin Erbakan University Ereğli Faculty of Agriculture, smart irrigation applications and innovative digital solutions aimed at more effective and efficient use of water resources in agriculture will be tested.
A climate-friendly agricultural model in pilot areas…
Within the framework of the project, 5 pilot demonstration areas will be established to create alternatives to unsustainable irrigation and planting practices. Five planting models optimized for semi-arid climate conditions will be tested, and productivity, soil health, and water use efficiency will be monitored.
In addition, trials will be conducted on 5 crops with low water footprints, contributing to the regional economy, and having high potential for adaptation to climate change. The data obtained will be used to guide farmers and to develop climate-resilient production models in agriculture…
