Saffron, a plant whose cultivation area has rapidly expanded in Tekirdağ in recent years, is attracting attention both for its economic value and its medicinal benefits. Mehmet Aksoy, the Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry, visited a two-year-old saffron field spanning 20 decares belonging to a young producer in the Göçerler neighbourhood of Saray district.

During the visit, Aksoy met with the producer’s family and inspected the production, which was carried out with dedication despite the cold and rainy weather. Congratulating the young farmer, who works alongside his mother, father and other hard-working producers in the region, Aksoy said, “Saffron is a product whose price per gram rivals that of gold. It has a very high added value and is a new source of hope for agriculture in Tekirdağ.”
Provincial Director Aksoy highlighted both the economic benefits and health value of the plant. Poinying out that saffron is a very valuable plant used in the pharmaceutical, cosmetic and food industries, which also stands out for its antioxidant properties, he noted, “Our region’s climate and soil structure are very suitable for this production. Such innovative productions support rural development and open new income streams for our farmers.”
