11th International Urla Artichoke Festival starts!

The Heart of Flavour, Culture and Solidarity Will Beat in Urla Again This Year…

Urla Mastic (Sakız) Artichoke, which is grown in the fertile soils of the Aegean and registered with its geographical indication, is crowned with a festival for the 11th time this year. Organised in cooperation with Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, Urla District Governorship, Urla Municipality, Izmir Chamber of Commerce, Izmir Commodity Exchange, Izmir University of Economics, Urla Chamber of Agriculture, Urla Chamber of Tradesmen and Craftsmen and Urla City Council, the International Urla Artichoke Festival is preparing to bring together thousands of guests on the streets of Urla on 25-27 April 2025.

In the three-day festival; the journey of artichoke in agriculture, its place in gastronomy and its importance as a cultural heritage will be discussed with a rich content. In addition to live music performances on the main stage and alternative stages, culinary workshops with Urla’s valuable chefs and foreign chefs, panels and interviews will be held with the participation of academicians and producers.

The 11th International Urla Artichoke Festival will take place on 25-27 April this year. During the promotional meeting held at Urit Restaurant, Urla Mayor Selçuk Balkan announced that the festival will include the first-ever GastroFarmUrla Conference. The mayor highlighted that the festival serves as a platform for cultural transfer and aims to promote local gastronomy and agriculture. This year’s festival will feature the 1st International GastroFarmUrla, Agriculture and Gastronomy conferences, bringing together chefs, producers, and international communities to showcase and exchange skills.

The festival will also include five different festivals under the umbrella of GastroFarmUrla: the Herb Festival, the Artichoke Festival, the Vintage, the Urla Vineyard Road Harvest Festivals and the Olive and Art Festival. Additionally, the festival aims to support agricultural production and protect the region’s natural texture, with the municipality providing support to cooperatives and villagers to increase production.

Dilek Gappi, Chairwoman of the Izmir Journalists Association, emphasized the importance of the festival in supporting producers and correct production, as well as expressing the need for solidarity and the role of the local government and the press in overcoming challenges. Muharrem Uslucan, Head of Urla Chamber of Agriculture, also underlined the significance of the festival in promoting the artichoke industry and supporting local producers.

Overall, the 11th International Urla Artichoke Festival aims to promote the cultural heritage and gastronomy of Urla, showcasing its rich diversity and supporting local producers. By organizing the GastroFarmUrla Conference and various other festivals, the event aims to bring together chefs, producers, and international communities to exchange knowledge and skills while promoting sustainable gastronomy and agricultural tourism. The festival also emphasizes the importance of protecting the region’s natural resources and resisting the encroachment of urban development.

The event will provide a platform for local communities to come together, showcasing local produce, promoting correct production methods, and fostering a sense of solidarity in the face of challenging times.
