The export of Rainbow Trout, a subspecies of the trout species grown in the Black Sea, which is known as Black Sea Salmon in the domestic market and known as Turkish Salmon in foreign markets, increased every month and exceeded the 100 million dollars limit.
In the first 9 months of the year covering the January-September period, 19.733 tonnes of Black Sea Salmon were exported from our country, providing a foreign exchange inflow of 112 million 210 thousand 299 dollars. While there was a surge of 197 percent in quantity and 269 percent in terms of value, compared to the same period of the previous year, Turkish Salmon, which was exported to 20 countries, was mostly preferred by Russia.
While approximately 80 percent of Turkish Salmon (90 Million 734,455 USD for 15,789 tonnes) which is highly appreciated by Russian consumers for taste and quality, is exported to the Russian Federation and most of these export products are grown and processed in our provinces of Rize and Trabzon.
Ahmet Hamdi Gürdoğan, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Eastern Black Sea Exporters’ Association, made evaluations on the subject and said, “As a result of great effort and research, Turkish Salmon/Black Sea Salmon, which have been successfully grown in cages established in the sea by our exporters in Trabzon and Rize in our Eastern Black Sea Region, show a great export success, their export exceeds the limit of one hundred million dollars.”
“If the problems, caused by red tape and public institutions in salmon farming are resolved, its exports will surpass the 1 billion dollar limit in a short time,” Gürdoğan added…
