Press release…

Türkiye, the world’s food warehouse, ramped up its exports to South Korea, one of its target markets, by 34 percent to 145 million dollars in 2024. Turkish food exporters will collaborate with the Korea Origin Information Agency to further ramp up food exports to South Korea.

The Aegean Exporters’ Associations (EIB), which lead Türkiye’s food exports, hosted officials from the Korea Origin Information Agency in Izmir. Jung-hoon Hwang, Team Manager of the FTA Information Analysis Team Research Planning Department at the Korea Origin Information Agency and Han Seungh, Senior Researcher at the Information Analysis Team, met with Mehmet Ali Işık, Chair of the Aegean Dried Fruit and Products Exporters’ Association and Muhammet Öztürk, Chair of the Aegean Cereals, Pulses, Oilseeds and Products Exporters’ Association.

Jung-hoon, Team Manager of the Research Planning Department of the FTA Information Analysis Team at the Korea Origin Information Agency, stated that they are aware of Türkiye’s potential in the food sector and that they came to the country to prepare a report on food products that can be exported from Türkiye to South Korea and to share this information with South Korean import companies.

Hwang shared that certain food products are trending in South Korea during specific periods, saying, “Closely following the Korean market and entering the market with trending products provides significant advantages. In the past, dates and Dubai chocolate were very trendy. Today, kaymak (skin – cream) is very trendy. Honey and kaymak are consumed a lot. Turkish honey and kaymak producers can establish very important connections in South Korea. The fact that there are thousands of food exporters within the Aegean Exporters’ Associations increases our opportunities for cooperation.”

“Türkiye’s high exports to Europe are a great advantage for the development of foreign trade between the two countries. If there are markets selling Turkish food products in Korea, we can reach more people,” he added…
