“Exports from the Southeastern region to Syria reached 416.5 million dollars”

Celal Kadooğlu, Chair of the Southeastern Anatolia Cereals, Pulses, Oilseeds and Products Exporters’ Association and Head of the Turkish Exporters’ Assembly (TİM) Syria Desk, discussed the positive impact of improved bilateral relations with Syria on exports and evaluated Türkiye-Syria foreign trade data for the first half of 2025.

“We are at the threshold of a new era in which industrial investments made in our eastern and southeastern provinces, aimed at having a say in Türkiye’s future, will reach their true potential. One of the most important sources of income for the production power here is trade with the Middle East. This year, while the Iraqi market experienced a slight recession compared to the past, we are experiencing a vibrant period in the Syrian market,” he said.

Highlighting that exports from the Southeast to Syria surged by 38.7 percent in the first six months, reaching 416.5 million dollars, he added, “Of this figure, 277.8 million dollars, corresponding to 67 percent, came from Gaziantep province alone. The grain sector ranks first in trade with Syria in the Southeast, as it does throughout the country. Our grain exports to Syria surged by 36.8 percent in the first six months, reaching 173.7 million dollars.”
