A large part of the country’s need is met from Tomarza district of Türkiye’s central Anatolian province of Kayseri and the harvest of pumpkin seeds, known as ‘yellow gold’, has started. The kilo of pumpkin seeds is sold between 125 TL and 130 TL this year depending on the quality and yield.
While 35 per cent of Türkiye’s need for pumpkin seeds for nuts is met from Kayseri, 23 per cent of the 35 per cent pumpkin seeds produced are produced in Tomarza. The harvest of pumpkin seeds known as ‘yellow gold’ has started in the region.
BETWEEN 125 AND 130 TL PER KILO
Pumpkin seeds grown in the fertile soil of Tomarza, which is located at the foot of Mount Erciyes; In 2023, approximately 152 thousand decares of land were planted in 2023 and 40-45 kilograms of seeds are obtained per decare in barren lands, while 115-120 kilograms of seeds are obtained in irrigated lands. According to its quality and yield, it is sold between 125 TL and 130 TL this year.
PRODUCER EXPECTS PRICES TO INCREASE
In 2023, a total of 6-7 thousand tonnes of seeds are expected to be obtained. Tomarza has completely renewed itself in foreign dependency by planting, hoeing, harvesting and patos and has become roasted with its own oil (stood on its own feet).
