Buffalo breeders who earn their living by selling buffalo products in İnönü district of Eskişehir province, wait for support in order to increase for the number of their animals and set up new sites in the region.
İnönü region is famous for cream (skin-kaymak) obtained from buffalo milk synonymous with the county just like other dairy products of yogurt and cheese.
Breeders who have difficulty meeting the demand produce an average of 5-6 tons of milk per year, although the number of buffaloes is low. There are nearly 200 buffaloes in the sector, where approximately 50 people work in the district. The buffalo breeding, which has regressed for a while, tries to survive with the contribution of İnönü Municipality. Raisers are waiting for support for these products, which are almost a healing source, to enter the kitchen of everyone and increase production.
Stating that they produce 5-6 tons of milk per year, Ali Rıza Sarıkaya, Chairman of Eskişehir Province Buffalo Breeders’ Association, said, “There are many people coming to İnönü district to buy buffalo cream (skin-kaymak) and yogurt. We produce buffalo cream, milk and cheese. As for prices, a plate of cream is 45 liras, yogurt is 25 liras. In addition, there is also merely buffalo yogurt and that is 60 liras.”
Sarıkaya added, “İnönü region brings buffalo cream and yogurt to all minds. There are people coming from all regions. On average we produce 5-6 tons of milk per year. There are about 200 buffalo breeders and about 200 buffaloes. People cannot find what they are looking for right now, it doesn’t always happen. Of course we are trying to increase the number as much as we can. Hopefully we will meet the demand.”
