Sahlep Harvest in Beydağ…

Attracting attention with their alternative agricultural product trials in Beydağ (a district of İzmir province), District Mayor Feridun Yılmazlar participated in the harvest of the sahlep they planted on a land for trial purposes.
Mayor of Beydağ Feridun Yılmazlar draws attention that he attaches to agriculture and his works for agriculture. Yılmazlar who was trying to increase the production in the district, also realized the first harvest of the sahlep they planted.
Harvested sahlep were cleaned and separated from their stems. The product which is removed to a cool environment, will be kept as a seed for sowing in the coming periods due to the high production quality.

“It is very important that it can be produced as interim agriculture in the garden”

In his statement in the field of harvest, Mayor Yılmazlar declared that he always wanted Beydağ district to stand out with his exemplary practices and that during this process, they were experimenting with an efficient and useful plant such as sahlep.

He emphasized that their work is very valuable for the district. Indicated that they need to introduce alternative agricultural products to the producer, Yılmazlar said, “We are also working on this issue. It is very important for us to grow in a short time and to be produced as interim agriculture in the gardens. Our families will provide an extra income when they turn to this business. While our small family farmers deal with chestnuts, figs, walnuts and red mullet, on the other hand our women will be able to produce sahlep. Hopefully we will be very happy if we contribute to spread of this value added product in our district.”
