“WE HAVE TO PROTECT TURKISH TOBACCO BRAND”

“The penalty for illegal tobacco trade will positively affect our exports”

Ömer Umur, Chairman of the Board of Aegean Tobacco Exporters’ Association, said, “The application, which came into force on July 1 and imposed a prison sentence for ‘the sale of macaron or leaf cigarette paper with minced tobacco stuffed’, would positively affect tobacco exports in our own land and we will continue to have a voice in the market.”

“We have to protect Turkish tobacco branded in international markets”

According to Aegean Exporters’ Associations data, stating that they welcomed this legal regulation, which will be beneficial in protecting the tobacco exports, which rank first in the Plant Product Exports in the first 5 months of the year, Umur reminded that illegal helix tobacco sales were imprisoned in 2017, but the date of implementation has been delayed twice until now.

“No put off again!”

While Ömer Umur stated that they found the decision correct, he also expressed his expectation for the next year on behalf of Aegean tobacco exporters: “I am sure that this regulation, which was made in order to protect and develop Turkish tobacco agriculture and exports, will fully succeed when this article of the law comes into force next year.”
