Trakya Development Agency (TRAKYAKA) Secretary General Mahmut Şahin stated that they support local and national seed studies and they have started a project for the revitalization and development of seeds unique to Thrace region.
Şahin said, “We established Trakya Tohum AŞ (Thrace Seed Inc.), which will provide analysis services in the field of seed production in the region, provide R&D and technical support consultancy, training and information activities.”
Explaining that there are commodity exchanges and 32 seed companies operating in Thrace within the company, Şahin noted that they aim to develop seed cultivation in the region.
“Our aim is for Thracian companies to produce seeds specific to the region. We have developed a project related to this and our commodity exchanges in Thrace and our seed companies support it,” Şahin added.
“We are planning to turn it into a company that will reach a turnover of 100-200 million dollars in the coming years. Besides we have observed that local and national production is very important. We will give a support of 13 million liras to this project, launched in seed industry. We are going to make plantings in Thrace and different areas of Turkey. What we want is to sell our seeds to Turkey and the whole world,” Şahin concluded…
