Expressing that the European Union laid the foundations for a greener and more livable world against the climate crisis with the European Green Agreement, which was brought to the agenda of the world in 2019, Aegean Exporters’ Associations (EIB) Organic Products and Sustainability Coordinator and Aegean Dried Fruits and Products Exporters’ Association Chairperson Mehmet Ali Işık, said that the organic sector is a sector that has adapted to the targets of the European Green Agreement.
“As the organic sector, we aim to export 1 billion dollars”
Pointing out that Türkiye has nearly 35 years of experience in the organic sector, Işık said, “With this experience, we should set an example for other sectors to fight the climate crisis and we need to take our place strongly in BioFach Fair and similar organizations in order to reach Türkiye’s carbon neutral targets by 2050.”
“We have to establish and implement a humane ecosystem in all our sectors in order to maintain our position in our biggest export market, the EU, to be able to produce sustainable and environmentally friendly and to put a stop to the global climate crisis. As Aegean Exporters’ Associations, taking steps regarding sustainability is among the priority items of our strategic plan. German Agriculture Minister Cem Özdemir clearly conveyed to the world public that after the pandemic, Germany and the European Union decided to increase organic production by 30 percent,” he added.
“Our priority will be to protect our lands and ensure sustainability in healthy food production. It is imperative that we protect our soils to boost organic production. We will focus on this topic with our UR-GE (Product development) and R&D projects. Universities, Institutes, manufacturers will be our stakeholders in this regard. We believe that we will ramp up our organic product exports, which is currently at the level of 500 million dollars, to 1 billion dollars in this way,” he concluded…
