Despite the pandemic, the foreign currency we brought to our country was 4.5 billion dollars
During the pandemic period, our fresh fruit and vegetable exports increased by 21% to 2 billion 731 million dollars, while the exports of fruit and vegetable products reached 1 billion 683 million dollars with an increase of 8%. We aim to boost our exports of 4 billion 414 million dollars in 2020 to 5 billion dollars in 2021.
We have achieved 25-35% increases in some agri-food sectors in our exports. Countries that are agricultural product producers and net exporters like ours have managed to keep their countries’ agricultural sectors at certain levels despite all the adversities. Our products are related to the yield conditions, we had a very good year in cherries and our yield was very good and as a result, we broke a record of 223 million dollars in exports. Again, our table grape season went very well, we did not experience any problems in terms of both quality and quantity.
We are in the citrus season. As the Association, we jointly carried out the citrus harvest determination project, which provides a significant predictive advantage to our citrus producers and exporters and we shed light on our exporters with a realistic forecast we made in the Aegean Region. We do not expect a decrease in production other than oranges, we are experiencing a good yield and production year despite the pandemic both in fresh fruits and vegetables and in our finished products.
In 2020 Turkey’s total fresh fruit and vegetable exports have achieved a 21% rise compared to 2019 and we have demonstrated the success of making 2 billion 731 million exports. In terms of fruit and vegetable products, we also achieved an export return of 1 billion 683 million, with an rise of 8% compared to the previous year. The total exports of our two main sectors reached 4 billion 414 million dollars. In 2021, we aim to exceed 5 billion dollars in export revenue in the fresh fruits and vegetables and fruit and vegetable products sectors.
