Veysel Memiş, Chairman of the Board of the Mediterranean Cereals, Pulses, Oilseeds and Products Exporters’ Association (AHBİB), announced that they achieved an export of 143.8 million dollars in May, an increase of 8 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.
Noting that the harvest period has started in cereals and pulses and the sale of new crops of wheat and red lentils has started in the market, Veysel Memiş, said that there is an abundance of products this year. Memiş noted that the harvest period has started in cereals and pulses and that new crops of wheat and red lentils have been sold in the market.
“Harvest of cereals and pulses to meet the domestic necessities more than enough will be obtained this year,” he said. “Yet export restrictions should not be applied to these products throughout the year, taking into account the stock turnover from last year,” he warned.
Indicating that according to the 2023 Crop Production 1st Estimate of the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), 20.5 million tonnes in wheat with a rise of 3.8 percent, 2.55 million tonnes in sunflower with a rise of 6.1 percent and 21.5 million tonnes in sugar beet with a rise of 13.2 percent, 3,237 tonnes in peas with a rise of 35.3 are predicted, Memiş added, “In addition, 580 thousand tonnes of chickpea, 270 thousand tonnes of beans and 400 thousand tonnes of red lentils are expected.”
