Peach and nectarine exports up by 33 percent to 125 million dollars…

Peaches and nectarines, which are considered the harbinger of summer and the symbol of long life and immortality, are experiencing a successful season in 2024.

Türkiye ramped up its peach exports between 1 January – 12 June 2024 from 94 million dollars to 125 million dollars with an increase of 33 percent compared to the same period of 2023.
In 2019, Türkiye exported 90 million dollars worth of peaches and nectarines and by the end of 2023, it had reached 203.5 million dollars by escalating its peach exports every year.
Hayrettin Uçak, Head of the Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association, said that peach and nectarine exports rose from 104 thousand tonnes to 134 thousand tonnes on quantity basis, underlining that peach and nectarine are among the important export products.

Pointing out the taste and deliciousness of peaches and nectarines as well as the fibre in peaches that prevents constipation, supports healthy digestion and balances blood sugar, Uçak said, “Peach and nectarine consumption is increasing every year. In 2024, we aim for our peach and nectarine exports to exceed 250 million dollars. Our Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry continues its negotiations with Far Eastern countries to conclude a phytosanitary certificate agreement. If these negotiations are positive, with the opening of the Far East market, our peach and nectarine exports can reach 500 million dollars in the medium term.”
