Turkish Organic Network (TORA) was launched on August 20…
Professor Dr. Uygun Aksoy, the Chairwoman of TORA, said that all institutions and organizations, operating in every stage of the production and consumption of organic products and inputs, came together in order to provide the cooperation and solidarity.
TORA, set up by the leading non-govermental organizations of Turkey including the Association of Ecological Agriculture Organization (ETO) and Wheat Association, will work to enhance the awareness towards sustainable producer-consumer friendly organic farming while conducting activities at local and national level.
Dr. Uygun Aksoy said, “TORA considers long-term planning necessary in all fields of activity in the production-consumption chain of food and non-food organic products and inputs; It advocates a needs-oriented perspective that prioritizes localism and self-sufficiency.”
Stating that the Network, which takes into account ancient and current scientific knowledge and practices in all education, marketing and lobbying practices, from nature collecting to setting standards, aims to make a fair perspective prevailing by observing the right to life of future generations and all living things, Dr. Uygun Aksoy noted, “The agro-food system, which is industrialized by using intensive inputs in our country, has many negative effects on the environment and human health.”
“This system multiplies the climate crisis and the social problems that come with it. TORA, which plans to serve to increase public welfare by protecting the whole ecosystem with local varieties / races, aims to disseminate its significant level of knowledge in organic agriculture, product, environment, health and animal welfare within the national and international ethical framework and to be the primary source of reference in this respect,” she added.
