TURKISH CHERRY SURPASSES CHINA WALL AFTER TEN YEARS…

Turkish cherry surpasses China wall…

Cherry exports reach 155 million dollars…

Turkey, world leader in the production of cherries, has been fighting to export this product to China since 2010 that imports 800 million dollars of cherries annually, reached a happy ending.

Turkey exported cherries to China for the first time worth 1 million 380 thousand dollars. It was also sent to Hong Kong by 76 percent increase of 3 million 357 thousand dollars.

Stating that cherry is the prestige indicator at the table of Chinese people and that Chinese people like cherries very much, Hayrettin Uçak, Chairman of the Board of Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association (EYMSİB) expressed that the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and Ministry of Commerce cooperated in order to remove the barriers to export.

Double export by air cargo…

Underlining that China is destined to become the biggest export market for cherry exports in the coming years, EYMSİB President Hayrettin Uçak completed his words as follows; Air cargo is very important for the exportation of cherry and other fresh fruit and vegetable products to Far East countries, especially to China. The Turkish exporter will be more effective in the export of cherry and other fresh fruit and vegetable products in the world thanks to air cargo.”

Turkey earned 155 million 650 thousand dollars while exporting 65 thousand tons of cherries between 1 January – July 10, 2109.

In the same period of last year, 69 thousand tons of cherries were exported for 152 million 198 thousand dollars. Cherry exports fell by 6 percent on quantity basis, but increased by 2 percent on value basis. The export season of cherry exports started 2 weeks late due to weather conditions. Under this consideration, cherry exports are expected to result in a greater increase in quantity and value at the end of the season compared to last year.

Germany ranked first with 77 million dollars of cherry exports, while the Russian Federation preferred 34 million dollars of Turkish cherries and became the top partner. The Netherlands was followed by Norway, Austria, Hong Kong, Denmark, Sweden, Italy and Iraq…
