The impact of Trakya Birlik surpasses Turkey…
Founded by the merger of three cooperatives and with a past of half a century, success of Trakya Birlik (Thrace Oil Seeds Agricultural Sales Cooperatives Union) was not just limited to Turkey, also took its place in a global list.
Istanbul Chamber of Industry (ISO) “2018 Year of Turkey’s Top 500 Industrial Enterprises List” showing the success its rank of 164, located as only Turkish coop in the World Watch List too.
Trakya Birlik started its activities in 1966 with the gathering of Babaeski, Lüleburgaz and Edirne Oil Seeds Agriculture Sales cooperatives. Over the years, the union has expanded its influence in the region to the Aegean and Central Anatolia regions, and has grown rapidly with sunflower production and became one of the most important actors of the national economy.
48 cooperatives and 36 000 partners…
Ahmet Akgün, Chairman of the Board of Thrace Union, told the AA correspondent that the organization includes a total of 48 cooperatives and approximately 36 000 partners in the Marmara, Aegean and Central Anatolia regions.
Akgün stated that they aimed to prevent price fluctuations against producers and consumers, increase producer’s earnings, provide economic services to consumers, quality products to the market, balance and savings in fertilizer usage and started to produce refined oil, margarine and mixed feed since 1982.
“Trakya Birlik who attained the first implementation of the internet cooperatives in Turkey, has been supporting our farmer partners with our association of seed company, set up in 2009, in the framework of affordable price and high quality sunflower, wheat and to supply rice seeds” he concluded…
