TARGET SET FOR TANGERINE EXPORTS IS 400 MILLION DOLLARS…

Satsuma has become the most preferred tangerine with an export of 52 million dollars.

During the pandemic period, the world rushed into the Turkish tangerine. Turkey obtained 110 million dollars from tangerine exports in a month in 2020 with a 12 percent increase.

Tangerine which is an antidote to the virus Covid-19 is expected to bring in 400 million dollars in this year as Turkish exporters set a target.

Satsuma tangerine, one of the traditional export products of the Aegean Region, which is the most preferred tangerine type with its taste, thin peel and smell, reached an export of 52 million 400 thousand dollars with an export increase of 13 percent. Satsuma tangerine has become the most preferred tangerine species in the world, with a share of 48 percent in total tangerine exports.

Tangerine exports from the Aegean Region increased by 83 percent…

In 2020, exports of tangerine from the Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association rose by 83 percent from 5.1 million to 9.5 million dollars.

“We’re running to the goal of 400 million dollars”

Stating that Citrus Harvest of 2020 carried out by their Association, the Aegean Region’s 2020 satsuma tangerine harvest has been predicted to be 154 thousand 245 tons, with an increase of 25 percent compared to the 2019 harvest, Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association Chairman Hayrettin Uçak said, “As the weather started to cool down, albeit with a delay, there was an increase in demand for tangerines both in the domestic market and all over the world. In 2020, we exported 243 thousand tons of tangerines and got 109 million 541 thousand dollars of foreign currency so far. In 2019, we had obtained 347 million dollars of foreign currency from tangerine exports. Yet we set a target of 400 million dollars in 2020 and we are taking firm steps towards this export target.

84 percent of tangerines sent to Russia, Ukraine and Iraq…

“Russia took the first place in Turkey’s tangerine exports in 2020 while amounted to 63 million 843 thousand dollars. As for Ukraine demanded 15 million 920 thousand dollars of Turkish tangerine and 12 million 879 thousand dollars of tangerines were sent to Iraq,” Hayrettin Uçak noted.

“As a result Turkey’s tangerine exports tangerine to these three countries reached 92.6 million dollars. In 2020, 84 percent of Turkey’s tangerine exports has been made to three countries, while number of countries to which tangerine exported has come to 62 around the world,” Hayrettin Uçak added…
