Tahir Büyükhelvacıgil, Chairperson of the Vegetable Oil Industrialists’ Association (BYSD), said that he predicted that sunflower oil prices could stabilize as in January and February.
Tahir Büyükhelvacıgil said, “It doesn’t end with just oil. We are also dependent on the outside in the cardboard, cap, tin and many packages we buy. They have to price in dollars. Therefore, despite all these difficulties, there is no shortage of supply in the oil industry. Goods are delivered. My request from consumers in particular is that they act in line with their needs. It is extremely important that other citizens should have access to sunflower oil. There doesn’t seem to be a problem at all. Changes in auxiliary raw materials due to currency movements inevitably reflected on sunflower oil prices.”
Tahir Büyükhelvacıgil explained, “As consumer demand is high, it may be over. When I look at the markets, I see the product easily everywhere. Maybe it’s rare somewhere. Markets sell many products. It is not easy for them to reach all of them. The shipment is delayed, something has happened. Otherwise, they can normally reach the products everywhere. If we can act on the daily and monthly needs of all of us, we will not cause trouble.”
Pointing out that 85 percent of the public has a tendency to consume sunflower oil, Tahir Büyükhelvacıgil added, “We should be able to develop our products. The reason for the rise is auxiliary raw materials. We know where the plastic raw material comes from. We’ve come to incredible prices.”
