The world’s choice is Turkish grape…
The export of fresh table grapes, one of Turkey’s traditional export products, made a successful start to the 2021/22 season.
While the amount of foreign currency obtained from grape exports was 63 million dollars between January 1 and September 14, 2020, it increased to 77 million dollars with an increase of 21 percent in the same period of 2021.
Turkey’s table grape exports soared by 32 percent on quantity basis, from 54 thousand 665 tonnes to 72 thousand tonnes.
Sultana seedless grape is the favourite of the world…
Sultana seedless grape, which was the favourite of the Ottoman Sultans in the past, became the first choice of the whole world. Sultana seedless grape exports rose by 38 percent from 38.8 million to 53.7 million dollars.
Stating that sultania seedless grapes account for 70 percent of Turkey’s table grape exports, Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association Chairperson Hayrettin Uçak said that they had a successful season in table grape exports.
Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association held its September Board of Directors Meeting in Alaşehir Commodity Exchange, in Alaşehir (a district of Manisa province), one of the important centres of table grape production.
Expressing that Turkey produces a wide variety of table grapes and distributes flavour and health to the world, Uçak said, “We provided a total of 158 million dollars export income to our country in 2020 from table grape exports. We are taking firm steps towards our export target of 200 million dollars that we have set for 2021. Apart from Sultani seedless grapes, Superior grape, which is a favourite of diabetic patients, ranked second with an export amount of 6.6 million dollars. Yalova Pearl reached an export figure of 2.7 million dollars, Rezaki grapes reached 1.5 million dollars and Red Globe grapes reached an export figure of 1.4 million dollars.”
Sharing the information that Turkey exported table grapes to 49 countries in 2021, Uçak emphasized that the traditional export market is the Russian Federation, with an amount of 42.7 million dollars, in the first place in exports. Uçak added, “While Ukraine demanded 12.2 million dollars of Turkish grapes, we exported table grapes to Germany for 4.2 million dollars, to Belarus for 4.1 million dollars and to Romania for 2.6 million dollars.”
