“SUCCESS IN THE FIGHT AGAINST PESTICIDES IN STRAWBERRY BRINGS A RECORD IN EXPORTS”

Turkiye achieved a great success in strawberry exports in 2021. While it exported 24.5 million dollars of fresh strawberries in 2020, it exported 46.2 million dollars of strawberries in 2021 with an increase of 88 percent.

Noting that the project titled “We Know the Pesticides We Use”, implemented by the Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association (EYMSİB) in 2021, started by taking samples from 1,500 decares of strawberry orchards, Hayrettin Uçak, Chair of EYMSİB, stated that the producer’s residue-free crop cultivation lies at the heart of the success in strawberry exports.

Speaking at the “Strawberry Sectoral Evaluation Meeting” organized by the Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association in Aydın’s Sultanhisar district, the brand of strawberry in Aydın, which is the second province that produces the most strawberries in the country, Uçak said, “As you all know, the crop is sprayed at the right time, at the right dose, with the right tools and equipment, applications should be made for the target organism in accordance with the time between the last spraying and harvest time. Otherwise, we harm human and environmental health in pesticide applications and prevent our exports from being realized.”

“In order to prevent this, we ensure the correct use of pesticides by taking samples from the production areas in our project called ‘We Know the Pesticides We Use’. Residue values ​​in the samples we took regarding strawberry were compatible with the limits of our biggest export markets, the European Union, Russia and domestic consumption of our own citizens. The success in our exports is the most important proof of this,” Uçak noted.

“This year, we want to continue our project and continue to explore the region. We see 2022 as the ‘Year of Combating Pesticides’ as all stakeholders and we expect both the producer and the exporter to fulfill their responsibilities in this regard,” he added…
