The Turkish aquaculture and animal products sector, which is the only sector to meet the 2023 targets set for the sectors in exports, has taken the African market on its radar within the scope of its efforts to find new markets to reach the new export target of 5 billion dollars, the star of exports, the aquaculture and animal products sector wants to reach a new market of 100 million dollars in Africa through Kenya.

Aegean Fishery and Animal Products Exporters’ Association (ESÜHMİB), which is the leader of aquaculture and animal products exports in Türkiye, aims to explore the African market with the Development of International Competitiveness Development Project named “Aegean Fishery and Animal Products” and participated in the Kenyan Food Event Fair held on 5-7 September 2023 in Nairobi, Kenya and carried out promotional and tasting activities to surge the consumption of Turkish aquaculture and animal products in East Africa.

Sinan Kızıltan, Chairman of the Turkish Aquaculture and Animal Products Exporters’ Associations Sector Board, stated that they started their promotional activities for the African market by participating in the 5th International SIEMA- Food, Beverage, Hotel and Restaurant Equipment Fair held in Casablanca, Morocco in September 2022 and that they carried out the second phase promotional activity for the African market by participating in the Kenyan Food Event Fair and that they saw that there is a great sympathy for Türkiye and Turkish products in Kenya.

It is possible to reach 250 million population through Kenya…

Pointing out that Turkish Airlines’ flying to the most destinations in the world offers great advantages for Turkish exporters, Kızıltan said, “While our exporters experience great convenience in reaching export markets and marketing their products, they can also deliver their products with Turkish Cargo. In this way, we believe that we can reach a strong position in Africa. Kenya is considered as the economy, trade and logistics centre of East Africa. Apart from Kenya, it stands out with its location at the entry point to the markets of Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, the east of Democratic Congo and South Sudan and its potential to reach approximately 250 million consumers not only through its domestic market but also through the East African Union Market of which the countries in the region are also members and the East and South Africa Common Market.”

He also indicated that the day before the Kenyan Food Event Fair in Kenya, they visited large super markets in Nairobi and also made a productive visit to the Nairobi Chamber of Commerce in order to increase our trade relations with Kenya.

At the Kenyan Food Event Fair, the stand of the Aegean Aquaculture and Animal Products Exporters’ Association was visited by Subutay Yüksel, Ambassador of Türkiye to Kenya and Mustafa Alıcı, Commercial Counsellor. During the fair, Aegean Fisheries and Animal Products Exporters’ Association exhibited sea bass-bream, Turkish salmon and smoked trout to the visitors, and organised a cheese tasting with smoked fish. ESÜHMİB was represented by a delegation consisting of Sinan Kızıltan, Chairman of the Turkish Aquaculture and Animal Products Exporters’ Associations Sector Board, Osman İşlek and Cem Sağır, Board Members, and Özlem Gökkan Vural, EIB Branch Manager.
