Omega-3 rich fish strengthens the immune system. Fish is an antidote to the Covid-19 virus. While the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends fish consumption 2-3 meals a week to increase its consumption worldwide, the United Nations General Assembly declared 2022 as the International Year of Artisanal Fisheries and Aquaculture (IYAFA 2022).
The Turkish Aquaculture Industry, which has increased its exports approximately 18 times in the last 20 years, has stored morale in order to break new export records after the United Nations General Assembly declared 2022 as the International Year of Artisanal Fisheries and Aquaculture (IYAFA 2022).
Stating that they reached an export figure of 1 billion 53 million dollars in the aquaculture sector in 2020, Sinan Kızıltan, Chairperson of the Sector Board of the Turkish Fisheries and Animal Products Exporters’ Associations, said that the UN decision is a source of motivation for reaching the export target of 1.5 billion dollars for 2023.
Pointing out that the role played by the seafood industry in food security and nutrition and sustainable use of natural resources will be put forward with a global understanding, Kızıltan added, “This decision is also very important for the development of dialogue between different actors and provides opportunities for small-scale producers to partner with each other and show themselves to the politics and decision-making processes that shape their daily lives.”
