Ramazan Özcan: We cover 85 percent of the world’s apricot production

In Malatya, where most of the world’s dried apricot production is supplied, the new apricot harvest has started, but producers are having difficulty finding workers. After the 2024 estimated dried apricot yield was announced, it is stated that the migration after the earthquakes negatively affected the harvest period.

In the province of Malatya, where 85 percent of the world’s dried apricot production is met, producers are having difficulty finding workers while harvesting apricot, which is the livelihood of about 50 thousand families.

“Our harvest period has started, there is a feverish work”

Noting that the new period harvest process in apricot started a while ago, Malatya Commodity Exchange (MTB) President Ramazan Özcan said, “Our apricot harvest period has started, there is a feverish work. While the collected crops are sorted to be evaluated under various headings, the estimated dried apricot yield for 2024 was announced as 107 thousand 517 tonnes by the commission gathered under the chairmanship of the Governor recently.”

“Considering the announced yield, we will have the most important harvest of the last three years. We aim to continue the export of fresh and dried apricots and hopefully we expect to bring an important income to both our Malatya and our country in economic terms,” Özcan added…
